Logistics center
Definition
A logistics center can be understood as a transport hub where comprehensive services are carried out, from transporting goods from the customer to the logistics center, receiving goods in the warehouse, handling materials during loading, unloading, and storage, transporting goods between logistics centers, and delivering goods within the agreed delivery times. In international transport, these services also include customs clearance on behalf of the customer.
Overview of Operations
A logistics center represents a central point through which participants in the logistics chain consolidate their activities in order to reduce costs. In logistics terms, this can be seen as a grouping of several independent organizations at a single location, such as freight forwarders, carriers, and customs authorities.
Where are logistics centers most commonly located?
In Slovakia, logistics centers are mainly located near highway access roads, railway lines, close to large cities, companies, and ports. Most logistics centers are situated in the southwest of Slovakia, near the capital city Bratislava. On the other hand, the fewest logistics facilities are found in the south and east of Slovakia.
