Intravilan
Definition
The intravilan is the central part of a municipality’s cadastral area. Its main characteristic is that it is a built-up area. The opposite of intravilan is the extravilan, which is the undeveloped part of the municipality. The extravilan marks the boundary of the intravilan.
Components and boundaries of the intravilan
The intravilan includes all areas designated for construction, as well as gardens, roads, sidewalks, public and technical infrastructure, watercourses, and open spaces. In contrast, agricultural and industrial areas, as well as isolated buildings, are not part of the intravilán. The boundary between intravilan and extravilan is established by surveyors based on geodetic measurements, which are conducted every few years.
