Extravilan

Definition

An extravilan is the opposite of an intravilán and refers to the outer part of a municipality’s cadastral area. Simply put, it is an undeveloped area, consisting mainly of agricultural and forest land.

The term extravilan is primarily used in architecture, spatial planning, and land surveying. It is a comprehensive designation for the undeveloped part of a municipality’s cadastral territory. The extravilán area may also include isolated buildings. In most cases, the extravilán covers a larger area than the intravilán and typically consists of forests, meadows, fields, pastures, and other similar non-built-up land.
