The Nitra Region with an area of ​​6,343.7 km² occupies 12.9% of the territory of the Slovak Republic. It is located in the southwest of the Slovak Republic, bordering the Republic of Hungary in the south, the Banská Bystrica Region in the east, the Trenčín Region in the north and the Trnava Region in the west. The relief of the region is mostly flat and lowland character interrupted by hills. Almost the entire region is located on the Danube Uplands and the Danube Plain, which are units of the Danube Plain. The Nitra region is rich in its raw materials, such as gravel, building stone and bricks.

According to the territorial-administrative arrangement according to the Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic no. 221/1996 Coll. is divided into 7 districts: Komárno, Levice, Nitra, Nové Zámky, Šaľa, Topoľčany and Zlaté Moravce. The smallest district of the region is Šaľa (355.9 km²) and the largest district is Levice (1,551.1 km²), which is also the largest district in the Slovak Republic.

There are 354 municipalities in the Nitra Region, of which 15 municipalities have city status. The share of the urban population is 44.8% of all inhabitants of the region. The dominant city is the center of the region - Nitra, which at the end of 2019 had a population of 76,533. Cities with a population of over 30,000 include Nové Zámky, Komárno and Levice.

In 2019, the share of the economically active population in the Nitra Region was 50.6%. The economic activity rate reached 58.6%. Since 2010, the employment rate has been steadily rising to 69.3%, while the unemployment rate has fallen to 4.6%. The average nominal monthly earnings were 11.1% lower than the national average and reached the level of EUR 1,122.

The composition of the industry is diverse, the center of the region - Nitra - is dominant. A very important company is Jaguar Land Rover - a car manufacturer. The main industries include the automotive, electrical, engineering, food, chemical and rubber industries. In the town of Šaľa there is an important chemical factory Duslo, as Nitrogen fertilizers and rubber chemicals are produced.

 The Nitra region has a large network of regional and international roads. The length of the roads was 2,592 km, of which only 67 km were motorways. In 2019, exactly 451,793 motor vehicles were registered in the region. The share of passenger cars was 70.1%. The international railway also passes through the region.
